Aksay District
The first records referring to the settlement located at the territory of contemporary Aksay is dated back to 1570. The Cossacks settlement had been repeatedly ravaged by the Turkish, Crimea Tatar and Nogais tribes. Nevertheless, its convenient location on the high bank of the Aksay river and the Don river junction, at the crossroads of ways leading to the Don Cossacks Army capitol Cherkassk (contemporary stanitsa Starocherkasskaya) kept attracting more and more people. The map dated 1742 mentioned Ust-Aksay camp, named after the nearby river (“Ak-Su” origins from Turk language, meaning “white water”).
Azov
Contemporary Azov is a cozy, small and very green town, with the industrial zone situated outside of the living area. The old historical part of the town still has the elements of the Azov fortress built in 18th century – the fortress walls, ditch, and the Alekseevkiy gates. The Azov historical monuments are protected by the government and administration.
Bagaevskyi District
The District centre village Bagaevskaya has a peculiar history. The first Cossacks settlements on the lower bank of the Don river started to appear back in the 16th -17th century
Belokalitvenskyi District
The Belokalitvenskyi District is an exception to the common notion of the Don steppe. Its nature is peculiar in river quantity, there are seven rivers on the district territory, from a tiny river Dyadinka to the famous Severskyi Donets.
Kamensk-Shakhtinskyi
Kamensk-Shakhtinskyi is a large industrial center of Rostov region. The town has a rectangular outline, asphalted, break and crushed rock streets. The majority of downtown houses are basically two – or four – storey, there are several nine-storey buildings.
Konstantinovskiy District
Konstantinovskiy District is situated in the central part of Rostov region, between the rivers Don and Severskiy Donets. The district center is town of Konstantinovsk, located at the Don River right bank.
Millerovskiy District
Millerovskiy District is situated to the northwest of Rostov region at the state boarder with Ukraine. The district administrative center is town of Millerovo, the most northern town of Rostov region and of the Southern Federal Division. The distance from the town to Rostov-on-Don is 220 km. The state Russian-Ukrainian boarder is equipped with the customs control check point.
Milyutinskiy District
Milyutinskiy District is situated to the northeast of Rostov region. Its territory boarders with Kasharskiy and Sovietskiy districts in the north, with Tatsinskiy and Morozovskiy districts in the south, with Tarasovskiy district in the west and with the Oblivskiy district in the east.
Morozovskiy District
Morozovsk was a settlement by the railway. In the beginning of the 20th century, the settlement and the nearby Cossacks villages were unified into village Taubevskaya, named after the ex-military ataman, baron von Taube. April 24 1917, the village was renamed into Morozovskaya, May 29 1941, by the RSFSR Supreme Soviet Presidium Decree, the village received the status of town.
Myasnikovskiy District
As a separate administrative unit, by the request of the Armenian population, the Myasnikovskiy District was established in 1926, by the decree of the Don Committee Presidium, prescribing to separate the Armenian district with the five mentioned villages from the Aksayskiy district territory and to establish its administrative center in the town of Nakhichevan-on-Don.
Sholokhovskiy District
The district history is more than 300 years old. Before the revolution of 1917, the district territory constituted a part of the Don Cossack Army’s Donetsk circuit. The Veshenskiy district was established due to the new administrative division in 1924.
Taganrog
Taganrog is a large industrial, cultural and scientific center and one of the significant sea ports in the South of Russia.
Tselinskiy District
The district administrative center is village Tselina. The neighboring regional towns are Salsk, Zernograd and Proletarsk. The distance from village Tselina to Krasnodar is 330 km, to Volgograd – 445 km, to Moscow – 1248 km.
Tsymlyanskiy District
The Don Cossacks founded the town of Tsymlyansk in 1672 as a Cossack settlement Ust-Tsymla. There is a supposition, the settlement name originated from the nearby river Tsymla. In 18th century the town attracted the Cossacks from the whole Don land, they were demolishing the walls of the medieval fortress Sarkel and taking the bricks to all parts of the land, to the land capital of Cherkassk for constructing the new fortress walls. There is no particular date of the town foundation
Veselovskyi District
Veselovskyi District is situated in the central part of Rostov region, at the Don river navigable confluent - the river Manych, on the bank of the Veselovskyi reservoir.
Volgodonskyi District
The history of the Volgodonskyi district dates back to the 17th century. The district establishing began with a small Cossack town Romanovskyi. At first it was situated on the right bank of the Don river. The settlement was founded approximately in 1672
Zimovnikovskiy District
Zimovnikovskiy District is situated to the southeast of Rostov region. It boarders with Volgodonskiy, Martynovskiy, Orlovskiy, Remontnenskiy, Zavetinskiy and Dubovskiy districts. Due to its territory area of 5045 km2, the district is one of the largest in Rostov region.
