Archeological Monuments
In spring 1981, a high long-lasting flood washed away the Don River right bank and uncovered a large ancient cultural layer to the north of the Cossack village Razdorskaya. The location was discovered by the local lore scientists for the first time in the middle of the 1950th.

Architectural complex “Ataman’s Yard”
The complex features architectural monuments of the 18th – 19th century, located at the former mansion of the Efremovs family, the Don Cossack Atamans, Don land feudal lords.

Barrow of Glory
The 4 bayonets, shot up into the sky, symbolize the 4 sanguinary years of the Great Patriotic war. The Eternal Flame was located in the center, beside was the concrete hemisphere with the attached metal letters saying “No one and nothing is forgotten!”. The stone staircase descended from the exterior hemisphere, ending at stone plates with the image of the Hero of Soviet Union Star and the list of Hero Towns: Moscow, Leningrad, etc. The concrete plate with the data on the losses of Novocherkassk citizens during the Great Patriotic war of 1941-1945 was located beside the exit from the Barrow of Glory.

Composition “Peaceful Atom”
The sculptural composition “Peaceful Atom”, the symbol of Volgodonsk, is situated at the very centre of the new part of the town. The composition features heavy grapevines hanging from the stylized orbits of the atomic particles.

Cossack Bulanov’s Mill
The exact time of Cossack N.N. Bulanov’s Mill construction is not known. The first official reference of the mill belonging to N.N. Bulanov, located at Gymnazicheskaya street (nowadays, Mira street) dates back to 1912. Therefore, the mill was constructed earlier than 1912. The one-storey building (nowadays, the electric workshop location) was erected at the mill territory for the steam engine placement. The Mill was partially destroyed during the Great Patriotic War period.

Equestrian Monument to M.I. Platov
Another bronze monument to M.I. Platov, this time the equestrian one, that is more natural for the legendary Cossack Hero, was erected in Novocherkassk at the central avenue, named after him as Platovsky, in front of the Army Assumption Cathedral on August 23, 2003. The monument grand opening was dedicated to the M.I. Platov’s 250th anniversary celebration. The author of the new M.I. Platov monument was a famous sculptor A.A. Sknarin. The memorable metal plate was fixed at the back side of the monument.

Fortress Lutik (Yellow cup)
Fortress Lutik is the archeological monument, located at the boarder of the preserve-museum Tanais protected zone.

Fortress shafts with the Alekseevsky Gates
Fortress shafts with the Alekseevsky Gates are the remarkable monuments of military engineering and architecture, that witnessed the Don Cossack siege of the 17th century and Azov military campaigns of Peter the Great.

Gunpowder Cellar
The Gunpowder Cellar was constructed in Azov in 1799. It is the only example of the fortress construction, belonging to the Empress Ekaterina times, in the South of Russia, the Cellar is considered the monument of military engineering architecture of the 18th century.

Khachkar (Stone-cross)
One of the settlement Chaltyr architectural and historical monuments is the so called Khachkar (Stone-cross) – the vertically erected stone plate, carved with ornament, depicting cross. The monument was brought to the Don land from the former settlements of the Armenian migrants.

Kruzhilinskiy Memorial historic complex
Village Kruzhilinskiy is a usual village at the Don River upper current .Still, this provincial site became world famous, as this is Michael Alexandrovich Sholokhov’s place of birth. “From his first days, little Misha breathed the wonderful steppe air in the endless steppes, the hot sun burned him, and the dry winds carried huge dusty clouds and dried his lips… He played in the overgrown streets with other little Cossacks…” (by A. Serafimovich).

M.I. Platov Monument
The first monument, erected in Novocherkassk, was monument to Matvey Ivanovich Platov, located in the central part of the town, in front of the Ataman’s Palace in the Ataman's Garden. The monument erection was dedicated to Novocherkassk founder Ataman M.I. Platov’s 100th anniversary; the construction was initiated by the Don Cossack Army Ataman M.G. Vlasov, who decided to establish the worthy memorabilia to the legendary Ataman Platov. Vlasov organized a donation fund for the monument construction.

Memorial Complex “Don Cossack fight against the Bolsheviks”
The Memorial Complex “Don Cossack fight against the Bolsheviks” is located at Cossack village Elanskaya, by the Don River steep bank. The complex comprises several commemoration crosses (in the memory of the Cossacks, who died in the fire of the Civil and the Great Patriotic wars, were traitorously given out to the Soviet government by the English allied troops in the Austrian town of Lienz in June 1945, and perished in prisons and exiles during the years of Stalin’s collectivization).

Memorial Place “40th Anniversary of the Victory”
Town of Shakhty citizens prominently contributed to the military heroic deed of Russian people in the Great Patriotic war. Over 10 thousand local citizens were killed during their fight for the Homeland protection at the Great Patriotic war fronts.

Memorial Site “Rich Spring”
On a hot August day in 1665, Peter the Great was riding along the Don River right bank on his way to Cherkassk during the first Azov campaign. He noticed a spring under the hill by the river. According to the legend, told by the local citizens, Peter the Great came down to the spring, drank clear cool water and said: “The rich spring!” The tract and the settlement founded by the spring later on were called after the tsar’s words “The Rich Well”.

Memorial to the Fascist victims at the Krasin mine
The town of Shakhty had to overcome many difficulties during the Great Patriotic war period. Thirty of the local citizens were honored by the title of the Hero of the Soviet Union for heroism and vendor shown at that period. Over 14 thousand people were killed during the occupation of the town, 3500 of them were thrown in the Krasin mine bore pit.

Mill in village Karginskaya
The mill construction, built by the Cossack T.A. Kargin, remains till present. The mill was depicted by Sholokhov in one of the novel “Quiet Flows the Don” episodes. The movie theater “Ideal” was constructed in the mill yard in 1911. In 1920th, the young village citizens staged here amateur performances, the plays and scripts were written by young Sholokhov. He also was very popular among the audience as an actor.

Monument “Aksinya”
The sculpture composition “Aksinya” was created on April 30, 1980. Initially, that was just a piece of land with a drainage spring, where the drivers could stop and get some water.

Monument “Don Cossacks”
There is a beautiful legend: “The horses were running along the Tsymla steppe, the brown earth, dried by the hot summer sun was steaming under their heavy hooves…one more step and they will see the vast Don River water meadow and bushes of bent century-old willows…

Monument “Love”
The Industrial engineers’ Garden in the new part of the town is decorated by one of the most famous sculptural compositions “Love”. A young man with a guitar in his hands is sitting in front of a girl, and they are talking about something. It is easy to guess, they are in love and projecting their life together. The sculpture is well placed in the middle of a fountain.
